Soccer cake for Leo, another long-time client whose birthday cakes I have been making for many years. This year he wanted to highlight his favorite French soccer team so I came up with this homage to the team jersey. He asked that I add the French flag on the front to make it his own. This cake taught me a lesson about needing to walk away when I start obsessing over things. The first 2 photos are from when I 'finished' the cake, but after looking at the photos I felt the flowers were overwhelming the cake and topper. So on the morning of the pick up, in a panic I took all the flowers off and started over. Looking back I should have left well enough alone. It's pretty both ways, and I'm happy with the finished product, but in hindsight, I like the original just as much. On a separate note, this was my first custom, hand-made wire cake topper. That was fun to make and I plan to experiment with doing more wire toppers.
